When thoughts and feelings may be hard to access and when you want to represent God’s presence - lighting a votive candle in our Cathedral can be bring light, warmth and comfort. It expresses what is important to humanity. Lighting a candle represents the light of Christ and can be used to offer prayers or intentions to God.  The chaplains at Saint Mary’s take special care to light a candle in your name at the foot of the statue of the Virgin. If you wish you can dedicate your candle with a prayer and the chaplains will entrust Mary with the prayer you choose.
