• Family visit on a summer afternoon

What a beautiful cathedral. It has a most amazing history, which is preserved and shared by the custodians of rhus beautiful place of worship. We were lucky enough to arrive just before a guided tour and tagged along, and boy, am I glad we did. The pamphlet provided for the self guided tour is very informative and easy to follow, but you can not beat a human interaction. Our tour guide was engaging, funny, and so knowledgeable on the history of St Mary’s. We planned a quick 20-minute visit, but we easily spent over an hour here, and time just flew by. The graveyard is worth a visit, too. It’s beautifully kept and has lots of informative signs placed around so you can learn more of the history

  • Historical Excellence

Historical cathedrals have often been quoted as being over or almost a thousand years old, and so they are if one were to start from where the original was built but subsequently rebuilt or modified. Here we have a cathedral over a thousand years of age, which existed long before any other building still standing in Limerick, and still in its original glory. This makes its architecture even more stunning and admirable. Within, there are also excellent pieces of furnishings which date back hundreds of years, all of which are very clearly described for the visitor. An absolute must visit, whether staying in Limerick or just passing through. This place has an exceptional existent history.
